How it works
At Sarsen Celebrants, we create meaningful and memorable ceremonies to welcome your child into the world. Whether you’re looking for something simple and intimate or deeply symbolic, each baby naming ceremony is completely bespoke, designed around your family, your values, and your hopes for the future. These relaxed, inclusive celebrations are perfect for families wanting a heartfelt, secular naming ceremony without religious structure or expectations, bringing joy to a new chapter in your life
What makes a naming ceremony special
A naming ceremony is built entirely around your child and the people who matter most to you. Led by a dedicated naming ceremony celebrant, the ceremony may include readings, music, symbolic gestures, and promises made by parents and chosen supporters.
Many families choose to include “guide parents”, like a non-religious version of godparents who make a commitment to support the child as they grow. Siblings, grandparents, and close friends can all play a role, making the ceremony feel inclusive and shared
How we work during a naming ceremony
This is often a tender time, and we’re mindful of that. Our role is to make things feel a little lighter and less overwhelming.
We sit down and talk
We begin with an informal conversation where you can share your ideas, your family story, and what you’d love the ceremony to feel like.
We bring everything together
From there, we’ll create a completely bespoke ceremony script, written just for you. You’ll have full input throughout, reviewing, refining, and shaping it until it feels perfect. Most families have one or two relaxed planning meetings, either in person or online.
We support you on the day
On the day, we’ll lead the ceremony with warmth and care, creating a calm and joyful atmosphere where you can simply enjoy the moment. There’s no pressure or formality, just a celebration filled with meaning, connection, joy and love.

Here are some of the things people ask us most when they’re considering a naming ceremony.
What is a naming ceremony?
A naming ceremony is a non-religious celebration that welcomes a child into their family and community. It’s a meaningful alternative to a christening, open to everyone regardless of faith or background. Parents share their hopes and promises for their child, and loved ones come together to mark the moment. There are no set rules, so every ceremony can be shaped around your family and your values.
Do you have godparents at a naming ceremony?
You can, though they usually go by different names. Because naming ceremonies are non-religious, many families choose guide parents, mentors, or supporting adults instead. The idea is the same: asking people you trust to play a special part in your child’s life. The difference is the role is personal rather than religious, so you can define it however you like.
